M-Tech Model 8100 -
Staff Gaming Review
I was able to take
home our 8100 from work. I'll be honest when I say that I did not
think this would be a laptop good for gaming. When I got home I was
happy that within 3 minutes I was connected to the internet and
surfing around with no problems. I later had a friend bring me Return
to castle Wolfenstein, one of the most tasking games on the market
other than Medal of Honor. I new that if my Voodoo 3 that used to be
on my desktop handled it this card would also, being a mobile Radeon
with 16MB of DDR RAM. What I didn't know was that it ran it way
better than my Voodoo 3 ever did, in fact I just replaced my
Voodoo with a Geforce 3 and I would have to say that it will be hard
to figure out which one will go to the LAN party I usually go to. I
saw no problems what so ever running the game at 640 x 480. That
maybe the lowest resolution, but it runs it smooth.
I did not run any real
time strategy games 'cause let's face they run on almost anything. I
did get a chance to run Vampire the Masquerade. This is an RPG like
Diablo, only it is more graphically intensive. The game came out in
1999, but still is tasking enough that my Voodoo 3 in my tower had
problems. I played it for about 20 minutes and was satisfied. The
only problem was that everything seemed dark, I think the only reason
it was like this was that everything in the game is dark. I also
threw on Black and White, which also ran fine. I'm not gonna go into
to much detail on this game because I didn't have it on the laptop
very long.
Overall, I love this
laptop. You may think it's funny but I loved it so much I bought the
model I got to take home. I even use it more than my tower for
surfing the internet, chatting with friends, and watching DVDs.
